I've implemented and uploaded a first version of a generic V4L2 camera HAL library for Android. It can be downloaded from this blog download
area. It is so far very limited in functionality, but at least I was able to use it to preview video from a camera, take still images and record video on an SH7372-based (ARM Cortex (TM) A8 based) mackerel board. This library is expected to be submitted to Gerrit in the near future, more features should be added as demand rises and time permits. The patches have also been
announced on the linux-media mailing list.
